Our lamb chops are the perfect cut to cook for a simple yet flavourful meal; one of our favourite homemade recipes is herb-crusted lamb chops. Here is our guide to cooking herb-crusted lamb chops to perfection.

What are Lamb Chops?

Lamb chops are cut from different parts of the animal, with the most popular cuts coming from the ribs, sirloin or loin. For this reason, lamb chops are extremely tender and packed full of flavour.

Lamb chops are more affordable than a rack of lamb and can be cooked extremely easily as they aren’t too thick, resulting in a faster cooking time. Lamb chops are not only enjoyable to eat but they are packed with protein and other nutrients that you need for a healthy and balanced diet.

How Do I Season My Lamb Chops?

It is important to marinate and season your lamb chops to complement their unique flavour. Lamb is a versatile meat that can be combined with many different herbs and spices; the most popular herbs for lamb chops are thyme, garlic, rosemary and parsley. Other herbs and spices such as coriander, chilli powder, paprika, basil and sage can also go well with lamb chops. Like most meat, lamb should be seasoned with salt and pepper to taste, no matter how you cook it.

How Should I Cook My Lamb Chops?

Lamb chops can be pan-fried, grilled, barbecued or quick roasted on high heat. One of our favourite recipes for lamb chops is pan-fried herb-crusted chops.

Crusted herbs are ideal for your lamb chops because they stop the incredible juices from the lamb coming out while being cooked. The crust seals the flavour in the lamb to deliver an outstanding meal for any time of the year. Here is a herb-crusted lamb chops recipe for you to try!

51Ingredients:

  • 35g of plain flour
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 1 tbsp chopped rosemary
  • 1 tbsp chopped thyme
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ cup of parmesan
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 lamb chops

Instructions:

  1. Create your herb mixture by combining the parmesan, parsley, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper in a bowl
  2. Crack your 2 eggs into another bowl and whisk until blended
  3. Lightly dust your lamb chops with plain flour, then dip the chops into your egg mixture
  4. Once your lamb chops are coated with flour and egg, cover them with your cheese and herb mixture
  5. Place your olive oil and garlic clove into a pan on high heat until your oil begins to sizzle
  6. Once your pan is hot enough, place in your lamb chops, cooking them on each side for around 3 minutes, until they are brown. Make sure you have enough room for your lamb chops; cook in batches of 2 if you do not have a big enough pan
  7. Once your lamb chops are browned on each side, take them out of the pan and leave them to rest for 10 minutes in order to allow the flavoursome juices to spread evenly throughout the lamb

You can check the temperature of your herb-crusted lamb chops to find out how done they are. The temperature for rare lamb chops should be around 48 degrees Celcius. For medium-rare herb-crusted lamb chops, aim for a temperature of 51 degrees Celcius and 55 degrees Celcius for medium lamb chops. Finally, if you would like your lamb chops well done, their temperature should be around 63 degrees Celcius. Lamb chops cook extremely quickly in a pan on high heat, so make sure you only cook them for a few minutes on each side.

What Can I Serve Lamb Chops With?

To finish off your delicious herb-crusted lamb chops meal, you can choose from a variety of sides. The most popular side dishes to serve with lamb include roasted potatoes, green vegetables such as green beans and asparagus, seasoned carrots or a side salad.

Sauces such as Dijon mustard, mint sauce, garlic butter, or dill sauce work wonders paired with a beautiful pan-fried lamb chop.
